USAAF   9th Air Force            Troop Carrier Wing

Doulglas C-47 Skytrains       Waco CG-4 gliders

Note: From June 1945, assigned to RAF 40 Group, Maintenance Command

 

Location: Just E of the A1, NE of junction with A1 & B6403, 8nm S of Grantham

Period of operation: 1942 to 1948
 

Runways: 02/20   1829x46   hard            06/24   1280x46   hard
                12/30   1280x46   hard

 

NOTES: I suspect that not too many people today know of this airfield?  But it was a major US base and in late 1944 with about 3638 USAAF personnel were based here.

I am interested to know if gliders carrying troops actually took off from here and what towed them
