Operated by: Camper & Nicholson and Gosport Aviation

Location: In/near Northam, on the River Itchen before it flows into Southampton Water, just NE of Southampton city centre

Period of operation: WW1 only?

NOTES: The Gosport Aviation Co used premises at Driver’s Yard to build Felixstowe flying boats between 1917 and 1918. Looking at a map it seems that ample room is available on the SW/NE part of the River Itchin S of Northam to allow flying boat operations. Perhaps Supermarine used this too at least in the early days before getting involved in commercial flying boat manufacturing at WOOLSTON.

We do of course need to remember that the bridge carrying the A3025 across the River Itchen did not exist in those days, or indeed for many years after WW2.
