OSWESTRY: Private airstrip

Operated by: Mr R Richards

Location: ?

Period of operation: ?

Runway: 10/28   650x(?)   grass

NOTES: My attempts to try and find out more, especially a location, (in 2016), have proved to be a failure, and it is not often that this happens. However, this said I assumed the airstrip was still being used? If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much appreciated.

I suppose the question should be asked, could this be WEST FELTON?  (See seperate entry)

OSWESTRY and LLANYMYNECH RACE COURSE: Temporary airstrip

NOTES: I don’t know the exeact location although Llanymynech village is 5nm SSW of Oswestry. My point in mentioning this site is because on the 2nd May 1936 the jockey E C Paget landed here in the middle of the racecourse - and then won the Tanatside Hunt Steeplechase!

In more recent years many racecourses have an airstrip, (or two in the case of NEWMARKET), or at least a helipad or helicopter landing area. However, how many jockeys fly themselves to these events today? I suspect the answer is none as combining the two disciplines would surely now be considered as too tiring?

However, if somebody can prove me wrong, I would be delighted to hear of an exception - or more.
