SHAWS FARM: Private helipad

Location: E of the A137 Harwich Road and S of the A120. Roughly 1.5nm NE of Colchester town centre.
NOTES: I’ll be making this point elsewhere. Today private helipads are ten a penny and you might be forgiven for thinking that every other pub and hotel today seems to have one too. It is certainly not the case of course, but, I am amazed how many there are - or have been.
But here near Colchester, in the mid 1970s, a private helipad was surely a novelty to say the least. It was here it seems the Hughes 296B G-AVUM was based.
