THOULSTON FARM:  Flying circus venue (1930s), much later private airstrip

Period of operation:  5th May 1933, later 2021 to -

A MOST EXTRAORDINARY SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES

I have been working on this project for over twenty years, and the website has been available for around six years listing nigh on six thousand individual flying sites - and nothing like this has ever happened before! The original intention, with the invaluable aid of Mike Holder, a great friend of this 'Guide', was to record the location of the display that Sir Alan Cobham's National Aviation Day No.2 Tour made here on the 5th May 1933.

Mike had found a newspaper article, (see below), giving the precise location, and had also kindly provided two maps and a 2021 Google Earth © picture, (see below). To my astonishment, lo and behold, the Google Earth © picture showed the clear evidence of an airstrip! A quick check soon revealed that I had no listing of this airstrip existing!

EVERYTHING SOON REVEALED

Although the main purpose of this 'Guide' is to record historical sites, I do try with a lot of help, to keep it up to date - more or less. Google Earth © pictures have revealed that this airstrip only came into existence in 2021 - and these notes were added in August 2022.

NOTES:  There is quite a bit of controversy about regarding the accuracy of the Google Earth © dating system, and I can certainly testify that it is highly suspect. But, for the purposes of this 'Guide' - invaluable even despite its obvious faults.

The new runway is:   04/22   500   grass

If anybody can kindly offer advice and information, this will be most welcome. Pictures are of course much appreciated.
