Tracy Island
TRACY ISLAND: Private microlight airfield, later airstrip (Aka CRICKET St THOMAS)
Please do not tell me that this site was not named in homage of the Thunderbirds puppet show created by Gerry Anderson in the 1960s. Born in 1947 I was far too mature to watch childrens puppet shows. But - I do remember watching these quite marvelous creations and being utterly captivated. How refreshing to find a site founded by somebody with a great sense of humour.
Note: All six of these pictures were obtained from Google Earth ©
Location: S of the B3167, SW of Cricket St Thomas village, 2nm E of Chard town centre
Period of operation: No sign in 2002. Perhaps 2005 (?) to -
Runway(s): 2006 - 07/25 480 grass 18/36 410 grass
Note: Later just 18/36 410 grass
NOTE: I think it worth mentioning, as seen in the first picture above, that the main take-off and landing areas had been expanded laterally in their central areas, which seems a most sensible precaution to take.

Also there is a strip just south of Chard , e-w called Two Ash Farm, just w of A358, have seen 3 or 4 a/c parked by the hanger, as I have flown past. I’m based at Henstridge. Great site, much appreciated.
