Whincups Field

Note: I might well be clutching at sraws here, but, so often in researching this 'Guide' these faint ideas have proved correct. Without spending too much time on the subject, I have not found any worthwhile information regarding the location of WHINCUPS FIELD. But, a look at Google maps reveals a Whincup Close in pretty much where I would expect these events were held. Can anybody kindly offer advice?

WHINCUPS FIELD: Temporary aerodrome

Operated by: Originally, it appears, used by William George Chapman, (of Leatherhead Flying Services), in 1922 using an Avro 504K.

Later by Alan Cobham’s 1932 National Aviation Day UK Display tour in May that year, and also used by Cobham’s 1933 No.1 Tour in May. In June for the 1934 Tour and  July 1935 for his No.1 Tour.

It also appears that the BHAP (British Hospitals Air Pageant), in June 1933 used this site.

Location: Marlow Hill, roughly 1nm S of High Wycombe
Note: Later information indicates that the 1934 and 1935 Cobham displays, (presumably WHINCUPS FIELD), were on a site presently occupied by Wycombe High School for Girls.

Period of operation: 1922 to 1935 only?

NOTES: It is also claimed that the Alan Cobham Display organisation used nearby BARMOOR FARM which later became RAF BOOKER and today is WYCOMBE AIR PARK.
