As can be clearly seen, a lot of evidence is still visible seventy years later.

As can clearly be seen there is a light aircraft on the ground here. Looking like a typical GA type? I have given two potential runways, (with red lines), the most likely being just 310 metres long, the second being 460 metres. Both of which are fairly minimal runway lengths for a typical GA type of aircraft. If anybody can kindly offer advice, this will be much welcomed.

Military user: RAF Bomber Command        2 Group

18 & 139 Sqdns   (Bristol Blenheims)

88 Sqdn   (Bristol Blenheims, later Douglas A-20 Bostons)

100 (Special Duties) Group

214 (BS) Federated Malay States Sqdn     (Boeing B.17 Flying Fortress IIs)

223 (BS) Sqdn   (Consolidated B.24 Liberators)

1699 Training Flight   (B.17 Flying Fortress & B.24 Liberators)

Location: SE of Oulton and W of Oulton Street villages, 3nm W of Aylsham

Period of operation: 1940 to 1947

Runways: 12/30   1829x46   hard           07/25   1280x46   hard
                17/35   1280x46   hard

NOTES: I had known for ages that the RAF operated B-24 Liberators, but it wasn’t until in 2004 whilst doing this research that I learnt they also operated the B-17 Fortress!

Without any doubt the result of WW2 propaganda films seen on TV over many years, where the B-17 Fortress was always the iconic USAAF bomber.
